- Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $128,052 to $142,649 pa + super
Our Conservation and Restoration Science team is seeking to appoint a Senior Scientist, Human Geography / Knowledge Exchange - Bushfire and Cultural science to join the Applied Bushfire Science Program.
This unique role combines scientific leadership in human geography with strategic knowledge exchange to ensure research informs real-world decisions. Working at the interface of science, policy and practice, you will help improve understanding of the social, cultural, economic and political drivers that influence bushfire risk and land management across New South Wales.
You will lead applied research and build the partnerships, networks and knowledge pathways needed to ensure scientific evidence is translated into policy, planning and operational outcomes. Working closely with government agencies, emergency management organisations, local government, research institutions and Aboriginal communities, you will play a critical role in delivering decision-ready science that supports the protection of environmental and cultural values.
As part of the Applied Bushfire Science Program, you will contribute to shaping future research priorities, strengthening evidence-based decision-making and improving how research is adopted and applied across the bushfire and natural hazards sector.
About You
You are an experienced researcher or practitioner with expertise in human geography, social ecology, social science, environmental governance, knowledge exchange or a related field.
You have a demonstrated ability to lead complex projects that generate meaningful impact beyond research outputs. You understand how policy and operational decisions are made and can translate complex scientific evidence into practical advice that supports planning, management and investment decisions.
You are a confident collaborator and relationship builder, capable of bringing together diverse stakeholders with different priorities, knowledge systems and perspectives. You have experience working across government, research institutions, communities and other sectors, and you recognise the importance of respectful partnerships with First Nations communities and organisations.
You are motivated by the opportunity to influence positive change for people, landscapes and Country through evidence-based approaches and strong partnerships.
