As an Energy Analyst, you will analyse and interpret a wide range of energy, program, demographic, market and other data to support evidence-based policy development and program delivery and assessment. You will develop reports, undertake statistical analysis, manage data quality processes and provide analytical insights and data visualisations that help improve program performance and inform strategic decisions.
You will work with large and complex datasets from multiple sources, while ensuring data integrity and translating technical information into meaningful recommendations for internal stakeholders, senior leaders, policy teams and external reporting.

In these roles, you will:
- Conduct quantitative and statistical analysis to support energy policy, program evaluation and operational decision-making.
- Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex energy policy, program and market challenges.
- Develop reports, dashboards, insights and recommendations that support evidence-based policy development and help to convey program results and impacts.
- Use tools like Power Query.

About You
You are an enthusiastic and detail-oriented analyst who enjoys working with data to solve complex problems and influence meaningful outcomes. You have experience analysing large and diverse datasets, identifying trends and translating technical information into clear insights that support decision-making.
Naturally curious, you enjoy investigating issues, asking questions and uncovering the story behind the data.
Your communication skills enable you to present complex findings in a way that is accessible and relevant to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are motivated by continuous learning, stay current with emerging analytical tools and techniques, and are excited by the opportunity to contribute to energy policy and programs that support a more sustainable energy future.
We are recruiting multiple Energy Analysts into three different teams within the Data and Analytics Branch
Team 1 - Strategic Data and Appraisal - One Role (Temporary, 12 months)
Energy analysis and modelling
- Conduct applied and statistical analyses, interpret and analyse consumer and business energy use and technology use data.
- Extract and manipulate energy, appliance, demographic, dwelling and climate data from multiple sources and create accurate and meaningful reports to inform policy development.
Team 2 – Energy Modelling and Analytics - Two Roles (Temporary 12-24 months)
Energy market analysis and modelling
- Conduct applied and statistical analyses, interpret and analyse electricity and gas market data, including energy market trends, supply, demand, pricing, market structure, technology uptake and consumer trends.
- Extract and manipulate and validate data from multiple sources and create accurate and meaningful reports to inform policy development.
Team 3 - Data Management and Insights - Three Roles (One temporary 24+ months, two ongoing full time)
Program data management and reporting
- Planning and implementing client-oriented data management, analysis, program monitoring and reporting projects in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Designing and managing data collection, analysis and reporting systems for energy and climate change programs.
- Developing dashboards, performance reporting tools and monitoring frameworks to support program delivery and evaluation.
Key knowledge and experience
- Understanding of local or international energy markets.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new analysis and modelling techniques as required.
- Experience with the following data analytics tools will be highly regarded: Python, R, SQL.
- Experience with data analysis techniques including statistical analysis and use of programming
- languages (e.g. DAX, R, Python)
- Experience with data management and visualisation software (e.g. MS Excel, PowerPivot, PowerBI, ArcGIS)
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new analysis and modelling techniques as required.
Essential requirements
- Qualifications or relevant experience in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, information management, finance, economics, or another relevant discipline.
