Lehigh University seeks a dynamic, service-oriented law enforcement professional to serve as Assistant Chief of Police and Director of Operations within our Campus Safety Division. This exempt, full-time leadership role offers the opportunity to shape safety culture at one of America's premier research universities.
Position Number: S80130
This position is a Grade: 12 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $103,300 - $125,660 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily operations of police division, campus security guards, and dispatch center
• Implement community-focused policing strategies using our One-by-One approach
• Ensure comprehensive safety and security service delivery across campus
• Build trust through respectful, service-centered engagement with all community members
• Report directly to Chief of Police on operational matters and strategic initiatives
• Lead and develop diverse teams of safety professionals
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related degree; Master's Degree preferred in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Organizational Leadership, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Education, Social Work or a related field
• Eight or more years of progressively responsible policing experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a command or senior supervisory role.
• PA Act 120 or ability to obtain certification through Pennsylvania’s Act 120 waiver process
• Demonstrated experience managing police operations, dispatch services, and/or campus security functions
• Completion of an advanced leadership program (e.g., FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern, or equivalent)
• Experience in a university or higher education law enforcement environment
• Familiarity with Clery Act compliance, Title IX response coordination, and trauma-informed practices in campus safety
