About the Opportunity
Join the International Center for Academic and Professional English (ICAPE) within Lehigh University's Office of International Affairs. Our team of dedicated instructors and administrators focuses on excellence in language and pragmatic instruction, supporting graduate and undergraduate students while facilitating their integration into the university community. ICAPE offers comprehensive English language support through advanced-level credit courses for matriculated students, the pre-matriculation StepUp intensive English program, specialized TA programming, and year-round individual tutoring and workshops through our English Language Lab.
Position Number: S99490
This position is a Grade: 9 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $56,030-$68,190 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Each year from July to June, teach a minimum of three courses per 16-week semester (or the equivalent in instructional units), which may include a combination of credit and non-credit courses, ongoing seminars and workshops, as well as scheduled work with students at the English Language Lab, at the discretion of the program director.
- Attend and participate in ICAPE program curriculum development, instructor and staff meetings, textbook selection, portfolio evaluations, course assessments, orientations, graduations, committee work, performance reviews, and other ICAPE program initiatives and activities.
- Administer, rate, report, develop, pilot, and maintain all English proficiency assessments as specified by the program director.
- Assist with revisions of current English language assessments, including but not limited to the Test of Pedagogical Speaking Skills (TOPSS) design, descriptors, and testing protocol.
- Schedule a minimum of two drop-in office hour per week between the hours of 7:00am-6:30pm, Monday-Friday (virtual or in-person), when classes are in session, as approved by the director.
- Advise students and participate in student file preparation and maintenance in support of the ICAPE programs, as well as any other administrative duties.
- Assist with ICAPE program tasks and activities that support the program's mission and the university's internationalization efforts.
- With Director consultation and approval, establish and actively pursue professional development goals to stay updated on current TESOL research, best practices, technology, and other trends in TESOL through attending conferences and/or informational seminars, giving academic presentations, and other related scholarly activities on or off-campus.
- Serve on ICAPE and/or university committees and participate in initiatives, events, trainings, and other activities that foster greater integration of international students and ICAPE's programs within Lehigh and the broader higher education community, all with the approval of the program director.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or Linguistics
- Three to five years of related work experience
- Adapt teaching techniques and approaches to the students' individual learning styles and needs
- Experience with language assessment and placement testing
- Curriculum design and materials development for diverse learning styles
- Cross-cultural communication and intercultural competency training
