POSITION

The Department of Biological Science at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Research Lab Federal Work Study Instructional Student Assistant Pool.

We welcome applications from current CSUF undergraduate and graduate students in the Biological Science department (or in a related program), who have awarded Federal Work Study, to assist/provide support in biology-related research activities and tasks within a number of disciplines. Tasks will include, but not limited to, wet-lab and/or field experience, data collection, entry and analysis, report preparation, lab maintenance, and supply inventory. 

This is a pool of Research Lab Instructional Student Assistant for the department to draw on as necessary. APPOINTMENTS FROM THE POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in the Biological Science Department, or in a related program, in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrated their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.  Must possess the ability to learn and perform assigned work, work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students, and accept responsibility.
  • Must be an admitted CSU student and currently enrolled
  • Must have been awarded Federal Work Study

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a course of study covering the content and skills to assist with/support academic research
  • Experience/familiarity a research lab

COMPENSATION

All Instructional Student Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.  Initial appointments are for one semester only. 

Classification Range: $17.86 - $23.84 per hour
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualification, not to exceed $17.86

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
