Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the DSS associate director of operations, the Student Assistant will support the Department of Disability Support Services (DSS) by assisting with the administration of exam accommodations for DSS students. The Student Assistant will work one-on-one with students who have various disabilities, facilitating quizzes, tests, and final exams, answering questions, and providing technical support as needed.

The Student Assistant will also assist DSS staff and faculty with receiving, organizing, and returning exams to the appropriate departments. In addition, the Student Assistant will provide professional and welcoming customer service to students, staff, and faculty who seek assistance from the DSS department. This position plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of DSS and ensuring students receive their approved accommodations and necessary support.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive student information.
  • Ability to learn and apply departmental procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and perform assigned responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and other members of the campus community.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods, including two or more hours, while monitoring students taking exams.
  • Ability to navigate the campus and travel between campus locations as needed to support departmental operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled CSUF student for the current regular semester, or otherwise meet CSUF eligibility requirements for student employment between semesters.
  • Must be in good academic standing and not on academic probation, continued probation, or academic dismissal.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to provide required employment eligibility documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is also available for viewing. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
