PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,680.00 per month to $3,800.00 per month.

About the Position

This is a full-time, temporary position through June 30, 2025 with the possibility of reappointment.  

The Logistics Department of Facilities Development and Operations is responsible for providing general maintenance cleaning services for the campus. It also assists with special event set-up/take down and minor furniture-moving projects.  Additionally, this department is responsible for securing buildings and equipment from unauthorized entry and usage.  The Laborer position is responsible for special event set-up and take down, loading and unloading furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; removing and hauling waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation, and other manual labor duties.

Responsibilities

Perform all of the following assigned work in a safe and timely manner:

  • Moving Services:
    • Move, load and unload furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies
    • Perform all assigned work in a safe and timely manner
  • Special Event Set-up and Take Down:
    • Install and remove flooring tarps
    • Communicate as needed with requesting department for specific event set-up details
  • Remove/Haul Waste and Recyclables from Central Aggregation Areas:
    • Perform assigned work in a safe manner
    • Perform assigned work in a timely manner

Assist other departments and perform duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
  • Follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety
  • Perform regular strenuous manual labor
  • Safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Special Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse student, faculty, staff, and community populations is essential
  • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate for the duties of the position

Ability to use Equipment:

  • Truck - operate lift gates
  • Furniture dolly
  • 4-wheeled cart
  • Furniture sliders

Certificates, Licenses & Education Required

  • A valid California Driver’s License
  • Complete the defensive driving training course

Special Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift (50) pounds on a regular and consistent basis
  • Occasional contact with hazardous waste materials
  • Ability to safely lift and move tables, chairs and small furniture
  • Continuous walking, bending, squatting, and twisting

Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment.  Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
