Job Summary

The Director of Beach XP is responsible for designing, implementing, and directing programs that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the student experience. This role leads and coordinates campaigns to strengthen student retention. Additionally, the person will develop and support initiatives for student success in the coursework and in instilling a sense of belonging in The Beach community. The Director of Beach XP provides day-to-day operational oversight including student and administrative support. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate: Collaborating with each College (Associate Dean & Staff Members), direct student retention programs from inception to delivery with guidance from the Vice Provost.
  • Program Development, Planning, & Coordination: Responsible for daily coordination, including planning and implementing all programs and activities throughout the year. The program involves all seven colleges, Academic Affairs, Administration and Finance, and Student Affairs.
  • Student Support: Provide resources and/or referrals to students to support academic success, basic needs, health & wellness, and/or create a student-ready environment.
  • Research & Evaluation: Assist the assessment team with strategic planning, timelines, and assessment activities in order to improve programming and student outcomes, including student learning outcomes, program review, and evaluation activities. Prepare reports and disseminate them when requested.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to lead large student-success-centric projects, coordinate logistics, and prioritize competing deadlines. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with senior administrators, staff, and faculty. Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with stakeholders. Experience in collaborative planning, implementing and program evaluation. Excellent organizational, leadership, and management skills. Demonstrate creativity, initiative, and innovation. Skill in using Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience in using Adobe Acrobat. Experience working effectively with the politics of a complex organization. Experience working with college students and their families from diverse backgrounds.

 Knowledge of college student development and its implementation of practice effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, and students. Understanding of peer mentoring and its components. Skill in supervising a diverse professional and support staff, graduate, and undergraduate student workers. Ability to work well in highly active, growth oriented, team environment. Demonstrate ability to work and thrive in a multi-cultural, equitable, and inclusive environment. Knowledge of campus-wide systems including applications of technology where appropriate. Understanding of multimedia presentation software, Internet, and the World Wide Web applications, database management and spreadsheet software required.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities and three to five years of related experience in a higher education setting in a program leadership capacity required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range:  The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is  $6,589- $9,884 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Benefits
