Position Description

We seek a colleague who will provide vision and project leadership critical for the technical infrastructure that delivers information resources to students and faculty via the Library’s discovery system and website. They will share responsibility for running local and remote systems including those supported and developed by the California State University (CSU) Library consortium, as well as coordinating workflows associated with third-party software that is crucial to resource discovery, research support, and student success. They will liaise with other library faculty and staff to provide improved systems support and implement user experience best practices to enhance discovery of and access to library collections and services. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment to prioritizing access to a diverse user population, especially for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and first-generation students.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, the Discovery & Systems Librarian provides vision and project leadership critical for the technical infrastructure that delivers information resources to students and faculty via the Library’s discovery system and website. They share responsibility for running local and remote systems, including those supported and developed by the California State University (CSU) Library consortium, as well as coordinating workflows associated with third-party software that is crucial to resource discovery, research support, and student success. They liaise with other library faculty and staff to provide improved systems support and implement user experience best practices to enhance discovery of and access to library collections and services.
In addition, library faculty members are expected to develop an active ongoing scholarship program in their area of specialty, and maintain ongoing committee and service assignments.

Required:
● ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
● Minimum of one year experience in managing library discovery systems (e.g., Primo/Primo VE), and library services platforms and/or integrated library systems (e.g., Alma)
● Demonstrated project management experience
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of colleagues and library stakeholders
 
Preferred:
• Demonstrated experience in library systems integration or implementation
• Experience in working with APIs, AngularJS, Python or similar applications
• Knowledge of and experience in best practices for designing and developing web sites using HTML, CSS, Drupal or similar
• Knowledge of and/or experience in implementing and managing digital repository systems
• Experience in troubleshooting, resolving discovery, and other systems-related issues
• Understanding of issues surrounding usability and interface accessibility such as ADA across a diverse user population
• Familiar with MARC and data interchange formats such as XML and JSON
• Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technology and applications in higher education and/or libraries
• Experience in collaborating and communicating with colleagues of varying levels of expertise
• Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a team
• Ability to adapt to rapid change and to exercise creativity and initiative
• Active involvement in professional development activities
• Demonstrated potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion under the library’s criteria for primary assignment, scholarship, and service
 
Rank and salary: Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The California State University (CSU) provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
