Library Assistant I (Special Collections) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 533926)
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Archives and Special Collections, and Assistant Services Managers (Special Collections), the appointee will support the daily operations of the Special Collections within the Archives and Special Collections (ASC).
Key Responsibilities:
• Performing counter duties, including charging and discharging of library materials;
• Supervising the use and handling of collections, especially rare materials;
• Answering all enquiries and conducting general research using our collections in a professional manner;
• Handling administrative duties including data input and update of collections records, databases and statistics with accuracy and in a timely manner;
• Digitising manuscript collections or any materials when called upon;
• Promoting access to collections through outreach;
• Assisting in environmental control, space management and collection care;
• Supporting outreach activities including talks, seminars, exhibitions and tours when required; and
• Performing any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by supervisors.
Shift duty on evenings, weekends and public holidays might be required.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess:
• A recognized university degree in Library and Information Management discipline;
• Some relevant work experience, preferably with minimum 2 years of relevant library and research services experience;
• Proficiency in English, Cantonese and Putonghua;
• Basic knowledge of PC and software applications, as well as bibliographic records of libraries; and
• Meticulousness, strong customer service skills and a team-oriented mindset.
What we offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
