About the role:

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative academic leader for the role of Discipline Group Chair (DGC) and Professor in Management within the Deakin Business School. As the DGC you will oversee a dedicated academic team, implementing the school’s strategy within their discipline. Reporting to the Deputy Dean, the Chair will provide leadership in managing and developing academic staff, ensuring alignment with the school's vision and academic goals.

In the capacity as a Professor in Management you will lead teaching teams to design and deliver cutting-edge, learner-centric courses while driving impactful research and creative activities in the field of Management.

Your key responsibilities as the DGC will include:

  • Lead and manage the discipline team, ensuring support for excellence in teaching, research, and service responsibilities.
  • Assign academic workloads in line with the school’s strategic priorities, under the guidance of the Deputy Dean.
  • Mentor team members by providing clear, constructive feedback and aligning their work with long-term strategic objectives.
  • Drive workforce management initiatives that promote continuous learning, career growth, and job satisfaction to retain top talent.
  • Empower team members by delegating responsibilities that nurture leadership potential and professional advancement.
  • Stay updated on developments in the discipline, maintaining best practices in teaching, research, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the School Leadership Team to build a cohesive discipline group aligned with the school’s identity and strategic goals

Your key responsibilities as the Professor in Management will include:

  • Undertake world class research that advances knowledge in a distinct management field that contributes to academic and practical understanding.
  • Secure funding for large-scale research and innovation projects, with a focus on real-world impact and/or commercialisation.
  • Supervise and mentor HDR students, ECRs, and MCRs, supporting career development and ensuring timely completion of research programs.
  • Lead teaching teams to innovate in curriculum design, influencing both individual and cross-disciplinary courses and materials that are learner centric and research-informed
  • Integrate industry and research practices into course design, enhancing student learning experiences.
  • Lead the development of assessments, providing clear criteria and timely feedback to improve learning outcomes.
  • Represent the university in academic, professional, and civic forums, contributing to strategic agendas and community engagement.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research and research supervision
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the discipline.
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants.
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline.
  • Demonstrated success and passion for leading teaching, research and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive collaborations within discipline and multidisciplinary teams.
