About the role

Position: Diesel Mechanic

We have an opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic to join our busy team based at our Fraser Street depot in Timaru. This is a diverse and challenging role which involves carrying out repairs, services, and maintenance on our heavy machinery such as container handlers, trucks, and other vehicles.

Status: Fulltime

This is a full-time position with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week. Hours of work are 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am to 12.00pm Saturday.

Location: Fraser Street, Timaru

Duties:

The purpose of this role is to support Depot Management by ensuring the workshop and machinery fleet runs efficiently and effectively on a daily basis to maximise business continuity.

Some of your responsibilities will include: 

  • Complete vehicle/machinery repairs, services and maintenance in a timely and cost efficient and safe manner
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and safety checks on all trucking, container handling and plant equipment within the fleet and in accordance with the appropriate schedules.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with Apprentices, hoist and truck drivers on mechanical preventions.

About you:

  • Experience with heavy machinery and hydraulics etc
  • Ability to understand electrical and hydraulic diagrams (or have some understanding of electrics)
  • A New Zealand National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering Level 4 (or equivalent)
  • A full clean New Zealand Drivers License 
  • Ability to work well within a team and under pressure
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
