JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Student Support Services (SSS), the Student Services Program Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of student programs or service areas. This position develops and coordinates academic workshops, academic coaching/mentoring, and individual/group advising sessions to help students reach and maintain satisfactory academic standing and persist/complete their undergraduate degree. Assists with supporting the goals of the Student Success unit in alignment with the Federal TRIO grant objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and leads implementation of academic support programming to ease students’ college transition and improve retention and student success efforts for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
  • Plans, develops and implements workshops, seminars, and presentations focused on academic success and personal development.
  • Coordinates programming and events that enhance academic and student development opportunities for participants.
  • Assists with advising students in academic and co-curricular pathways, including but not limited to navigating course options, graduation requirements, schedules, and major/minor selection. Monitors students’ academic progress in collaboration with other University offices.
  • Oversees peer coaching/mentoring program. Recruits, trains, and supervises peer coaches and mentors. Coordinates workshops, academic coaching/mentoring, and one-on-one and group sessions for students in academic difficulty to help them return to satisfactory academic standing.
  • Provides outreach to students to connect them to campus resources to promote their retention. Facilitates engagement activities and advocates for students in matters related to academic notice, subject to dismissal, and/or readmission. Meets with students to provide strategic academic counseling.
  • Collaborates with faculty and campus departments to ensure quality advising, programming and support for SSS participants. Evaluates efforts, gathers relevant data, compiles statistical reports, and maintains appropriate computerized files and records.
  • Contributes to outreach, recruitment and orientation activities for eligible students. Maintains accurate records of student contacts and progress, including summer bridge and mentoring initiatives.
  • Assists with publicizing and marketing of academic support resources and programming.
  • Required to work occasional weekends or irregular hours.
  • Teaches FYE course sections.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three to four years of professional experience in counseling, coaching, and/or advising students. 
  • Experience working within a TRiO or academic support program for first-generation and/or low-income students from varied educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting academic success services and activities that support student growth, retention, persistence, and graduation.
  • Experience coordinating activities and events to promote student learning, engagement, and/or career preparation.
  • Experience in data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, writing, and administrative skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An advanced degree in education, counseling, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in higher education.
  • Experience supporting and/or advising students in a college setting.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to provide general educational support, effectively implement recruiting strategies, and interpret educational records and related information.
