JOB SUMMARY

UConn Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) is looking for a 9- or 10-month registered dietitian to provide students with nutrition counseling, programs, and outreach located on the Storrs campus. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Nutrition Coordinator, the SHaW Registered Dietitian will be responsible for the following: 

  • Provides specific nutrition counseling and general nutrition education to concerned individuals, patients, and/or groups.
  • Prepares medical nutrition therapy plans for students with special diet requirements; evaluates nutrition needs and designs appropriate diets through the nutrition care process.
  • Participates in training and overseeing experiential learners and student employees.
  • Consults with and advises health professionals regarding preventative, therapeutic, and general nutrition.
  • Develops informational materials and conducts educational outreach programs for students, faculty, and staff regarding nutrition education and health promotion.
  • Serves as an expert in Student Health and Wellness; participates in related committees and advisory groups to provide guidance, education, and feedback.
  • Performs related work as required.

COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of:

  • Nutrition best practices
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy
  • Nutrition therapy for eating disorders
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision
  • Microsoft Office and related software applications

Skill in:

  • Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of nutrition concerns, specifically ADIME (Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, and Monitoring/Evaluation) and it’s documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Planning and organization
  • Understanding students and fostering student success
  • Developing and maintaining effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and analysis

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively through both oral and written means
  • Work effectively with other internal and external stakeholders and providers for multidisciplinary coordinated care to students.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy to students.
  • Provide nutrition education to students, faculty, and staff
  • Respect diversity and work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
  • Work independently to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to direct supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related discipline and five years’ experience in nutrition, dietetics, or related field with verified experience in counseling OR Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related discipline and 7 years' experience in nutrition, dietetics, or related field with verified experience in counseling.
  • Credentialed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration.
  • Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist (CDN) with the state of CT or willingness to become certified.
  • Experience providing nutrition counseling to people with eating disorders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or engagement with the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework, including weight-inclusive care, body diversity and inclusivity, and supporting individuals across a range of body sizes.
  • Experience providing nutrition counseling and presentations to college students.
  • Experience providing nutrition counseling to individuals with mental health concerns.
  • Experience providing nutrition counseling to diverse populations such as the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, but not limited to.
  • Experience incorporating body image work into nutrition counseling.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, in-person, permanent position (35 hours a week) on a 9- or 10-month annual basis during the academic year, on the Storrs campus, from mid-August through mid-May (9 months) or mid-June (10-month) basis, with paid summer leave.
