Job Description

The Associate Director of Corporate Engagement for LINK, Center for Advancing Industry Partnerships, leads strategic activities and outreach within the unit and across divisions designed to grow industry partnerships and engage alumni to advance the ambitious goals of Virginia Tech.

LINK is part of a holistic model (LINK + LICENSE + LAUNCH) designed to support industry, from discovery to market and is a jointly funded between Advancement and the Office of Research and Innovation.

The Associate Director of Corporate Engagement sets the strategy and leads implementation across engagement and outreach platforms as the front-end of the business development / partnership funnel. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships, this individual serves as a senior leader on the Corporate Engagement team leading programming and outreach key to the success of the unit. This position is responsible for piloting new efforts, measuring and implementing successful engagement strategies, tracking performance against specified goals and deadlines, and the on-going stewardship and communication to key corporate partners, executive champions, alumni and internal stakeholders.

Engagement platforms include a full range of events and experiences to include virtual engagement, corporate visits, and large-scale industry activities. This position is responsible for establishing the strategy for each, working with teams and consultants to define, mobilize, and build, and ensuring successful execution. In the aggregate and individually, the activities support key goals of Advancement, OVPRI, and the university and include expanding: research-based partnerships, connections to executives and champions, broad reach to alumni around topics of their professions/work, fundraising, participation goals, and brand building.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and demonstrated experience in alumni relations, corporate relations, career services, communications or equivalent experience in a nonprofit institution or industry.

Candidate must possess strong strategic skills and data-driven approach to launch new activities and track and measure progress.

He/she should have excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills to support storytelling and engagement among the many and VIP individuals.

He/she should have demonstrated record of organizational, management, and interpersonal skills, with high level of professionalism to engage C-suite and VP-level executives as well as broad base of alumni working within corporations.

Strong project management skills and ability to deliver on multiple projects in face-paced, team environment.

Must have the ability to work closely and effectively with university administrators, faculty, corporate partners and vendors to develop effective strategies for planning events, developing sponsorships and offering quality services to alumni.

Demonstrated effective teamwork, leadership, process management, strategic development, and negotiating skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree.

Significant experience with executing high-quality events and outreach to strategic corporate partners and alumni.
