Job Description

The Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (HNFE) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is hiring an Instructor/Assistant Director of the Internship in Nutrition and Dietetics to instruct and manage the experiences of interns enrolled in the Internship in Nutrition and Dietetics, a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The Assistant Director develops and maintains supervised practice sites in assigned areas, teaches weekly internship class sessions, and advises interns who are simultaneously completing the internship’s partner graduate degree. Undergraduate and/or graduate course instruction is expected based on the needs of the Internship and Department. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accreditation compliance activities, curriculum review, and program continuous quality improvement. Further teaching and service responsibilities are assigned that advance the mission of the Department, the College, and the University. This is a full-time academic year appointment. There are job requirements that must be completed outside of the academic year, for which compensation may be negotiated on an individual basis. The successful candidate will report to the Department Head and collaborate weekly with the Director of the Internship in Nutrition and Dietetics. This position requires frequent and successful coordination and relationship building with multiple other faculty, staff, and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

● Graduate degree in dietetics, nutrition, public health, or related field
● Registered dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) credential
● Minimum of three years of post-RD credential work experience in the dietetics field
● Evidence of strong organization and communication skills
● Previous experience teaching students or training employees or volunteers
● Commitment to advancing the nutrition and dietetics profession through leadership, service, and/or continuing education/professional development

Preferred Qualifications

● Doctoral degree or research experience in a clinical or community-based setting
● Work experience in a healthcare environment and at least two other dietetics practice settings
● Previous program development and management experience
● Experience working with volunteers
