Job Description

The Assistant Budget Analyst assists in the development, execution, communication, and monitoring of the revenue and expenditure budgets for the University Division and Cooperative Extension/Agricultural Experiment Station Division (VCE/AES) as well as other specific programs. The Assistant Budget Analyst provides operating support and participates in broader budget office responsibilities and ad hoc projects.

Budget Programs/Processes:
The Assistant Budget Analyst assists the annual budget development for the Educational and General (University Division and Cooperative Extension/Agricultural Experiment Station Division) revenue and expenditure budgets to include central fixed, fringe, and position allocation budget development. The Assistant budget analyst supports the annual development of the Sponsored Programs and Overhead budgets. The Assistant Budget Analyst monitors, analyzes, and reports on revenues and expenses; coordinates with various fiscal managers while developing the budget and resolving any issues detected during the monthly analysis. The assistant analyst supports the development of Authorized Budget Document and budget execution. This position provides assistance and guidance to university fiscal managers on these processes and other financial matters.

Operating Support:
The Assistant Budget Analyst serves as backup to process Banner transactions and performs other quality reviews of system data, coordinates the university’s position allocations, assists with the planning and implementation of university compensation programs and other strategic initiatives. The Assistant Budget Analyst provides assistance, guidance, and training to university fiscal managers on these processes.

Special Reports and Projects:
The Assistant Budget Analyst helps facilitate operational and strategic decision-making by conducting special studies and projects in response to questions and requests for information from the University administration, Board of Visitors, and state agencies. The Assistant Budget Analyst assists in the development of comparative reports with peer institutions on various topics as assigned.

Required Qualifications

- Knowledge of budget methodology, managerial reporting, and fund accounting.
- Ability to prepare financial reports, which require data collection, analysis, and forecasting.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or related curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

- Preference given for experience in higher education and/or experience with accounting or data management systems.
