Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Design in the Division of Facilities’ Design and Construction department, the Associate Director of Design will:
• Assist the Director of Design in design review and approval process for minor modifications and non-capital projects to ensure alignment with the university’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and initiatives.
• Engage in review of campus signage standards maintained by the Wayfinding Designer and approved by the Director of Design.
• Assist the Director of Design in the development, review, and approval of campus planning and feasibility projects.
• Participate in capital project design review and approval process.

Required Qualifications

•Advanced degree in Architecture, or Bachelor of Architecture and work experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
•Registration as a Professional Architect in Virginia.
•Progressive work experience as an architect.
•Considerable experience as a project manager.
•Experience with and an understanding of Historic Preservation and The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
•Experience in accessible design.
•Must have a valid driver’s license.
•Proficiency with current office computer software including word processing and spreadsheets.
•Adept in using design software (e.g., AutoCAD Architecture, Adobe Creative Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience working in a university setting.
•Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia (or other public agency) directives and higher education facilities requirements.
•Experience with AIM project management software.
•Ability related to the use of project management software such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
