Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Business Office in the College of Engineering is seeking an Associate Research Administrator to join a team that provides administrative and financial management in the post-award phase of sponsored research projects. There is a significant emphasis on budgeting, financial, and accounting activity in this position. This position serves as a key resource to faculty and assures sound stewardship of sponsored research dollars. The successful candidate will have a strong customer service focus, be a self-starter who is able to work independently and as part of a team.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:
  • Monitor and reconcile account activity to ensure that all expenses are charged appropriately
  • Manage budget adjustments, extension requests, cost share, and effort commitments
  • Approve proposal budgets and participate in the grant close-out process
  • Track expenditures, approve hire forms and expense reports
  • Develop positive working relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight
  • Contribute to process improvements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions
  • Ability to research issues and formulate solutions that frequently involve unique issues/problems
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion
Minimum Qualifications:

At a minimum, you should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business and/or finance or two years of relevant professional experience. Proficient in Work and Excel applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or governmental accounting
  • Experience working with sponsored research administration
Salary and Benefits:

Salary ranges from $40,800 – $48,069 per year.
