We share with our students the physical and intellectual experience of art and craft and assist them with acquiring the skills and knowledge to practice as artists, teachers, theorists, historians, designers and illustrators.

The successful candidate will teach a maximum of 4 courses per semester at all levels within the Photography program, with opportunities to develop and teach courses relative to the candidate’s research interests.

The Department of Art, Design and Visual Studies at Boise State University invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of Art position in Photography. This is a full-time, nine- month academic appointment, starting Fall 2025.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Photography, Digital Photography, Digital Media, or a related visual arts field

  • Proficient knowledge of analog and digital photography processes, including black-and-white darkroom techniques, film processing

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.) for artistic production

  • Experience in digital lab operations and inkjet printing techniques

  • An ability to integrate both the history of photography and contemporary theory into teaching and practice

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of alternative photographic processes

  • College-level teaching experience

  • A record of professional accomplishment with a portfolio of professional work, exhibitions, and/or publications

  • Community engagement and service is highly desirable

Salary and Benefits:

Salary of $60,000 (9 month contract) 

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here
