Job Summary:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures seeks a sign language interpreter to interpret for courses in ASL 001, 002, and "Deaf Culture". The main responsibilities of the position include: interpreting lectures, classroom discussions, questions, and other spoken information into American Sign Language (ASL) for the students and instructor; voice interpreting the deaf or hard-of-hearing student's professor into spoken English for the hearing students; preparing for classes by reviewing course materials and technical vocabulary to ensure accurate interpretation of specialized content; adhering strictly to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct; maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries and collaborating with the professor to support the class's communication access needs. The instructor for the course is deaf, so this position must be strong at sign-to-voice interpreting and be able to work with a second interpreter for the course.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree

Hold a RID Certification or an equivalent state or national certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong sign-to-voice interpreting

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
