Off-Campus Life Graduate Assistant for Community Building in Harrisonburg
Off-Campus Life (OCL) is here to assist students in gaining necessary knowledge and skills to make informed decisions within the off-campus community, to provide support and resources to off-campus students allowing them to maintain an academic focus, and to inspire and empower students to be responsible citizens who create safe, values-oriented communities. OCL is a part of the Office of Student Life, whose mission is to provide all students with experiences for self-discovery, belonging, and authentic engagement with each other, their communities, and beyond. The role of the Community Building GA will include developing and implementing programming that focuses on community building for our commuter student population, working collaboratively within Student Life and the division of Student Affairs to build a Good Neighbors program, and helping to bring together a community/campus coalition that will inform and provide direction in these efforts. A Graduate Assistant in the office of Off-Campus Life is expected to work 20 hours a week. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary due to the nature of our programming. The majority of the weekly hours will take place in the office, but some work in the greater Harrisonburg community is possible. All GA’s in Student Life are expected to attend departmental staff meetings and sponsored professional development opportunities as schedule permits.
