  • Visiting Lecturer: Statistics and Math (Fixed Term Appointment) in Harrisonburg

    The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications for a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA), starting August 2026. This appointment is a 10-month instructional faculty position that is non-tenure track and for 1 year only. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching general education statistics and mathematics classes. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistics and experience implementing innovative, student-centered teaching practices. Our engaged, collegial department is home to over 55 full-time faculty in the areas of statistics, pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education. Our programs are dedicated to providing meaningful learning experiences for majors and non-majors alike. We are a supportive faculty who value high-quality undergraduate education. We currently offer Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, including a concentration in Data Science, and minors in Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Analytics, and Mathematics for Elementary & Middle Grades Teachers. Scholarship and service in a variety of forms are respected across all areas in the department. We have a strong history of supporting undergraduate research and outreach efforts, including hosting a NSF-funded REU program, a large annual undergraduate research conference (SUMS), and an outreach conference to encourage STEM interest among middle school girls (MadiSTEM). The department also houses the Center for Statistical Consulting that provides research and scholarship support to faculty, staff, and students across the campus and to external groups.

  • Youth Program Specialist - Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program in Harrisonburg

    We seek a Youth Program Specialist to support JMU and the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS)’s mission and vision to provide outreach programs to the community and provide quality experiential learning opportunities to JMU students. The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program, part of SexEdVA at JMU, is a broadly targeted effort based on the principles of positive youth development and optimal health for the young people of the Shenandoah Valley. The project’s design includes the implementation of positive youth development programs, and the integration of innovative components to reduce risky behaviors among teens in Harrisonburg City and Page County, Virginia. The programs used with the SRAE program are Wyman's Teen Outreach Program, the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Project AIM program, and the Teen Speak motivational interviewing program. SexEdVA aims to ensure that young people across Virginia have access to sexual health information that is positive, evidence-based, and medically accurate in order to make informed decisions regarding their health. SexEdVA seeks to advance health and education by addressing social determinants of health through comprehensive programming for youth and quality training for the adults who work with them. SexEdVA’s mission is to support adolescent sexual health in Virginia communities through training and technical assistance, curriculum development, research, and advocacy. As part of the Facilities and Events team within JMU Athletics, this position will have an assigned facility to oversee but will also assist at other athletic facilities across campus. Duties include but are not limited to: opening/closing facility; maintaining the appearance and functionality of the facility; providing varsity sporting and special event support; receiving, taking inventory of equipment; scheduling lights; and ensuring safe condition of the buildings.
