Position Introduction

The Access Services Librarian within the College of Law Library manages the circulation activities of the law library. These functions include:

  • Oversees daily circulation operations, including managing opening and closing procedures, circulation desk activities, and patron services across all service hours.
  • Supervise and manage the circulation student workforce, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and promoting a high standard of service. Develop staffing schedules and ensure consistent coverage across the library's hours of operation. Provide mentorship for student workers.
  • Provide interlibrary loan services, including lending, borrowing, and document delivery.
  • Supervise and manage the physical collection's upkeep, including stack maintenance, shelf-reading, shifting projects, and reserve collection. Coordinate loose-leaf filing, bindery functions, and microform maintenance.
  • Develop guides to the library collections and research aids using the LibGuides platform.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.

Department Preferences

  • A master's degree in Library Science, Library & Information Studies, or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school OR experience working in a library setting as a library professional or paraprofessional.
  • One to two years of experience in a law library or law firm setting, managing library circulation activities and providing customer support to library users OR Experience working in a library setting as a library professional or paraprofessional.
  • Experience in an educational or professional setting supporting students, faculty or other professionals.
  • Ability to recognize and provide excellent and thoughtful customer service to a variety of both external and internal clients.
  • Organized, detail oriented and efficient in carrying out work tasks.
  • Exhibits curiosity, tenacity and creative problem solving.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Ability to complete projects individually and in coordination with other team members.
  • Ability to complete work under frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills tailored to wide range of clients and situations.
  • Experience teaching or training.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems and services such as Ex Libris Alma or OCLC WorldShare.
  • Proficiency in Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint and possesses experience in using software, apps, or Internet services to develop, acquire, or deliver content.
