Position Introduction:
Tutors in the Boys & Girls Club of Norman will provide academic support and education to students enrolled in the after-school program. This position is part-time through OU’s Federal Work Study program.
Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one or small group instruction tailored to each student’s learning needs and goals
Develop and implement personalized lesson plans and instructional strategies to improve understanding and performance
Supervise students during sessions, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment
Help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
Provide feedback and support to students to help them develop confidence and skills
Required Education and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled in the Fall Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
Must attach Fall 2026 class schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working in structured or group settings with children preferred.
At minimum, some college experience; many positions require a teaching certification or specialized tutoring certification from recognized organizations
Strong subject knowledge in areas such as Math, Reading, Writing, Science, or test preparation (SAT/ACT, high school entrance exams) depending on the program
Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and needs, including students with learning differences or special needs
Excellent communication, patience, and motivational skills to engage students effectively
Ability to operate a personal computer using e-mail, word processing, excel and other applications related to assigned duties
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers
Ability to work independently.
Ability to adhere to agreed upon schedule.
