Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance Services for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS) and in collaboration with your colleagues, respond to work order requests and supervisors' directions to perform relevant installation, repair, replacement, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and fixtures throughout campus utilizing plans, specifications, and verbal instructions. Collaborate with DFS and other University departments to initiate and deliver high quality projects on budget and in a timely manner.
Duties
- Use appropriate tools and follow relevant plans and specifications, service, repair, replace, adjust, inspect, and test systems, equipment, and components that operate primarily on the basis of electrical principles, including but not limited to detecting, locating, troubleshooting, and fixing malfunctions, defects, and deficiencies, connecting electrical wiring between circuit breakers, transformers, controls, components, and equipment according to wiring diagrams.
- Test electrical circuits and components for continuity. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment. Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Assist in performing Preventive Maintenance programs for electrical equipment and systems.
- Identify and address issues in need of attention and generate work orders accordingly. Accurately record and report all work performed indicating the time and materials expended. Manage materials, parts, and equipment, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement.
- Maintain tools and equipment in an effective manner and a clean work area and vehicle. Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, entering data, and monitoring systems.
- Work collaboratively alongside electrical team members. Assist other trades (plumbing, mechanical, and structural) with tasks as needed. Maintain required trade-specific training and certifications and obtain further training as needed. Participate in staff improvement including training programs.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure effective communication and coordination among all internal stakeholders and external vendors and contractors. Coordinate activities with University departments such as Housing and Residence Life, Design and Construction, Public Safety, Information Technology, Regulatory Affairs, Events, and University administrators to ensure that all parties are well-informed and that work proceeds on schedule with minimal impact to University operations.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent.
- Must be able to complete NFPA 70E and OSHA eight (8) or sixteen (16) hour courses.
- Broad technical knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques in the electrical field and industry standard Preventative Maintenance (PM) processes.
- The ability to understand plans, design specifications, electrical schematics, and manufacturers' instructions and recommendations to ascertain the configuration of relevant equipment and components, ensure their proper installation, and remedy issues.
- Competency using tools and operating equipment of the trade such as power recorders, multimeter, amp meter, megger, infrared camera, and pipe bending tools.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and emergency power systems.
- Analytical and problem solving skills to successfully resolve issues.
- Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must consistently present a professional demeanor and positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Willingness and ability to periodically work overtime hours, respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends, and work rotating weekend shifts providing general maintenance duties for the campus.
- Normal mobility and ability to move around construction sites.
- Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, climb up and down ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds (and occasionally up to 100 pounds), including up and down stairs.
Preferred:
- Four (4) years of full-time, paid experience in electrical work and two (2) years of trade-specific Electrical education.
- Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office and experience working with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably TMA.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $32.00 - $34.00 per hour
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
