The Clinical Training and Professional Development Coordinator supports students in the Daytime Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy (MACLP) programs as they progress through their clinical practicum experience. Based at the Malibu campus, this hybrid role provides individualized advisement and mentorship to ensure students meet program expectations and Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements.

The position serves as a key liaison between the academic program and external practicum sites, maintaining strong relationships with agency partners to uphold the quality and integrity of student placements. In collaboration with program leadership, the Coordinator contributes to compliance efforts, supports the development of practicum-related educational resources, and assists in delivering training that promotes professionalism and readiness for licensure.

Additionally, the Coordinator engages in community-building efforts for the Daytime MACLP program, including student support events, orientation, and admissions-related activities. This role reflects Pepperdine’s mission by promoting academic excellence, ethical practice, and compassionate service within the clinical training experience.

Duties

  • Advisement, Clinical Education and Oversight
    • Manage all practicum components for the MACLP program at the assigned campus, including student placements and site coordination.
    • Provide individualized advisement and mentorship to students navigating clinical placement, professional development, and BBS requirements.
    • Maintain regular in-person drop-in hours to support student accessibility and engagement.
    • Serve as a clinical educator, guiding students through ethical dilemmas, licensure laws, professional communication, terminations, and conflict resolution.
    • Act as a consultant to faculty, program leaders, and clinical supervisors on practicum-related issues, and coordinate student support or remediation plans as needed.
    • Supervise and mentor Graduate Assistants, ensuring proficiency in BBS guidelines, grading policies, and practicum support processes.
    • Oversee placement tracking, including site availability and student placement records, to ensure accuracy and alignment with program standards.
    • Lead training sessions and orientations related to practicum systems, course resources, licensure preparation, BBS regulations, and post-grad licensure preparation ensuring students have the information needed to navigate clinical education and pursue licensure.
    • Maintain regular communication with agency directors and site supervisors to support student performance and strengthen community partnerships.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to student and colleague communications, offering clear, supportive guidance throughout the clinical training journey.
    • Manage documentation and audits of practicum hours, evaluations, and compliance paperwork in alignment with BBS and University standards.
    • Participate in weekly Clinical Training team meetings and regular check-ins with program leadership to support student progress and program improvement.
  • Clinical Education Resource Development
    • Provide supervisor support to maintain asynchronous clinical education resources for PSY 661: Preparation for Practicum and PSY 662: Clinical Practicum course modules in Canvas and additional educational resources to support student and faculty development and success.
    • Provide guidance on university policies and resources that support compliance and uphold academic standards. 
  • Admissions and Community Engagement
    • Support admissions efforts for the Daytime program on an as-needed basis by contributing clinical training insights during admission committee meetings, applicant meet-and-greet events, and, as time permits, representing the department at prospective student information sessions.
    • Contribute to program events in a supportive capacity, including orientation and year-end celebrations, to help create a welcoming and connected student experience.
  • Other duties as assigned including mandatory engagement in the GSEP Psychology graduation ceremony and Education graduation ceremony bi-annually.

Skills and Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and/or Professional Clinical Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of post-graduate clinical experience across diverse settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) regulations and licensure pathways, with the ability to effectively guide and prepare students for clinical practicum placement and progression toward licensure. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage complex tasks and uphold a high level of professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, auditing, and data tracking across systems.
  • Effective presentation, training, and public speaking abilities to engage diverse audiences, including students, faculty, and external partners.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and student advisement, offering a calm, supportive presence while maintaining positive relationships with clinical training partners.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and responsive, with a strong customer service orientation and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in both PC and Mac operating systems, with strong working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, etc.).

Preferred

  • For candidates currently accruing clinical hours toward licensure, preference will be given to those nearing completion of licensure requirements.
  • Licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or license-eligible.
  • One to two years of experience working in an academic or training-focused environment, ideally within a graduate-level behavioral health or clinical psychology program.
  • Solid foundational understanding of marriage and family therapy theories, evidence-based treatment models, and professional ethical standards.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including licensed clinicians, practicum students, faculty, site supervisors and directors, and clinical training personnel from diverse backgrounds and levels of professional experience.
  • Ability to navigate Google suite, Peoplesoft, Experiential Learning Cloud (formerly Tevera), Canvas, Adobe, Zoom, Canvas, PeopleSoft, Experiential Learning Cloud (formerly Tevera), YouTube, Cisco Jabber and additional University platforms.

This is a Restricted, Nonexempt, 30 hour per week position that may be eligible for remote or hybrid work in accordance with the University Policy Manual. Upon approval, this hybrid agreement would require a minimum of 2 days in office per week.

Expected Pay Range: $24.31 - $27.02 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
