Reporting to the Assistant Director of Laboratory Safety, the Environmental Compliance Manager oversees environmental issues for the university, including landfill and air permit compliance. Consult on stormwater management, universal waste, recycling, and special remediation projects. University point of contact for regulatory agencies on all environmental compliance issues. Implement and consult on sustainability activities for the university.
Advanced degree in an engineering discipline, science, or training and experience equivalent to an advanced degree. Working knowledge of engineering practices and principles as they apply to federal/state regulations dealing with sustainability and other environmental areas. Ability to conduct inspections, interpret and apply technical regulations and standards, and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to wear personal protective equipment. Experience in air and water issues and hazardous materials handling. Working knowledge of computers and software. Ability to work independently.
An advanced degree in Environmental Engineering; demonstrated ability to work in a complex organization; familiarity with the Virginia Tech campus; experience conducting environmental audits and sustainability planning. Experience in database management, report writing, oral presentation, and development and management of programs: Professional Engineering license, hazwoper certification, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Eligible for telecommuting. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check and a driver's license check. The selected finalist will participate in the university medical surveillance program.
