What you’ll be doing in this role

Working within the Medical Records Department, your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Timely and accurate coding of inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and relevant coding authorities
  • Participate in regular coding audits and quality improvement activities
  • Liaise with clinicians and other health professionals to clarify and seek further clinical information for coding query purposes
  • Respond to internal and external departmental requests for information as required


Who we’re looking for

  • Completion of Medical Terminology and clinical coding qualification through HIMAA, OTEN or Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent), with 1.5 – 2+ years of coding experience.
  • A minimum of 1- 2 years+ coding experience
  • Sound knowledge and skills in clinical coding using ICD-10-AM classification system
  • Knowledge and understanding of Australian Coding Standards and DRG assignment
  • Previous or current experience using 3M Codefinder
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail as this role requires accurate information to be abstracted and translated
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience considerately & professionally communicating with both internal and external stake holders
  • Ability to work both in an unsupervised environment, and within a team setting
  • Knowledge of private sector funding models will be highly regarded, but not essential
  • Previous training in ICD 10-AM 12th Edition is essential
