The district is responsible for approximately 18,000 miles of road in Central Virginia making it VDOT’s largest roadway network for a District. Approximately 880 employees work within the Richmond District, which includes four Residency Offices and 27 Area Headquarters. The Richmond District has road and bridge toll facilities geographically located within it and is home to two Metropolitan Planning Organizations. With a $750 million construction, maintenance and operations program, the Richmond District is at the heart of the Commonwealth representing both urban and rural environments.
