Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in agricultural communications, agricultural education, journalism, scientific communications, mass communications, or closely related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will show a commitment to excellence and specific evidence of: (1) interest and expertise in agricultural communications; (2) potential to apply research to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level. Demonstrated ability to (1) communicate with various and appropriate audiences (e.g., stakeholders, policymakers, and academic), (2) publish research in appropriate outlets, (3) develop and sustain extramural funding, and (3) advise both undergraduate and graduate-level students. . Candidates must also have a commitment to core values of excellence, innovation, diversity, global involvement, and public accountability.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Success in this position requires excellence and expertise that strengthens the university's capacity to engage students, community members, and affiliated scientists on issues of communications about agricultural sciences. It is envisioned that the faculty member will establish a nationally recognized program in agricultural and scientific communications. Although no formal Extension duties are outlined in the position, outreach and service to stakeholders are an essential aspect of this position. The focus area for this position will be written communications (journalistic style, technical writing, public relations writing, public speaking and presentation). Responsibilities will include: (a) developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (including online delivered courses where applicable); Excellence in teaching is required of at least three courses annually; (b) advising undergraduate and graduate students; (c) student organization advising; (d) supervising student interns; (e) serving on departmental, college, and university committees; (f) conducting a focused research and scholarly activity program of national scope focused on agricultural communications; and (g) securing extramural funding in support of a research and scholarly activity program.

The successful candidate will team with the department's other faculty to complete the teaching, scholarship, and engagement activities of the department. This person will have a teaching and scholarship responsibility within the discipline of agricultural communications, with teaching and advisement of both undergraduate and graduate students. Service and scholarship to the department, college, university, and professional societies is expected. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong commitment to research and scholarly activities and will play an active role in the growing graduate program in the department. May foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center for Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS.)

The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education (AXED) concentrates to provide students with content knowledge, technical skills, and applied experiences that will establish our students as successful teachers, agents, and industry professionals. The department offers a B.S. in Agricultural and Extension Education, and an online or face-to-face M.A. in Agricultural and Extension Education with emphasis areas in Agricultural Education Teaching, Extension and Non-Formal Education, Agricultural Communications, and International Extension and Development.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using cutting-edge communication technologies preferred. Applicants who are outstanding teachers with experience in resident and online instructional delivery preferred.
