Department Summary

The department of biomedical engineering is 10 years old. There are 354 students enrolled in fall 24. The department has graduated more than 400 students who are employed in all the top biomedical companies in the nation, in graduate schools and medical schools, respectively. The department has 13 faculty who have brought in more than $10M in research funding collectively and research expenditures have averaged more than $1.75M in the last 3 years in a row. Our department has a strong culture of interdisciplinary research collaboration, with specific strengths in nanotechnology, advanced biotechnology, genetic engineering, biopolymers and tissue engineering.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

Postdoctoral position in the Meckes Research Group at the University of North Texas focuses on understanding the regulation of nanoparticle uptake. The researcher will perform cell-based studies to understand how biomaterial properties impact interactions with nanomaterials important for therapeutic interventions. Research requires extensive experience with oligonucleotides and cell printing technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Biomedical Engineering
Experience in nanoparticle and polymer synthesis
Nucleic acid synthesis and purification including non-standard phosphoramidites
Cell culture experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in stereolithography
Flow cytometry experience
Data and statistical analysis

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Synthesis of liposomal nanoparticles 
  • Mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students in research activities 
  • Maintaining cell cultures and evaluating nanoparticle uptake with flow cytometry 
  • Conduct experiments, gather data, document research notes, analyze data, and interpret data
  • Prepare manuscripts for suitable scientific journals
