About The Role

Reporting to Manager Water Resource System Planning, this is a full time, fixed term contract until August 2026 within the Service Strategy Team.

As the Senior Water Resources Planner you will be responsible for supporting the management of bulk water entitlements and allocations, water resource strategy development and implementation, drought preparedness planning, water resources assessments, and in contributing to water industry outcomes consistent with Melbourne Water’s strategic directions and water policy and strategies of the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA).

  • Lead elements of Melbourne Water’s contribution to delivering State Government bulk water policy initiatives such as bulk water entitlement reform, management and realising the potential of water supply grids
  • Engage key senior stakeholders as a representative of Melbourne Water to:
    • Lead and coordinate specialist input to the development and implementation of key water resource strategies prepared by Melbourne Water, water businesses and Government.
    • Facilitate the development of key metropolitan and regional activities and studies concerned with water resource management including: annual water outlook, desalinated water order advice, drought management planning, water efficiency and other statutory and contractual reporting obligation
  • Undertake where required and coordinate water resources assessments across the Water Resource System Planning team and the business
  • Continue to develop and improve Melbourne Water relationships across key internal and external stakeholders to build collaboration on the resolution of water resource management concerns.

About You

  • Knowledge and experience of water resources planning, water allocation frameworks and bulk water entitlements, water resources policy and environmental water management
  • Knowledge of the regulatory, institutional and governance environment as it applies to the water industry and water resources management
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and communicating complex technical information to stakeholders and the community
  • Experience in collaborating, influencing and delivering jointly agreed outcomes with Government departments, customers and other stakeholders, representing a range of knowledge and skills
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and communicating complex technical information to stakeholders and the community
  • Your ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required together with a tertiary qualification in Science, Civil Engineering or a relevant field.
