Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life. As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity. Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years. If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

Join Melbourne Water and play a key role in maintaining the land, waterways and environmental assets that help make Melbourne one of the world's most liveable cities.

We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand Grass to deliver grass management activities and support maintenance, natural resource management and civil works across our extensive waterways and land network in the Mornington Peninsula and Westernport region.

About the role

Reporting to the Program Lead Maintenance, you will:

  • Undertake grass maintenance, vegetation management and civil maintenance works.
  • Operate primarily ride-on front deck mower, tractor and associated grass cutting machinery.
  • Support the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance and project activities.
  • Identify hazards and contribute to a strong safety culture.
  • Operate spray rigs, boom sprays and other heavy plant equipment.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and operational call-outs when required.

You will bring:

  • Experience operating spray rigs and boom spray equipment.
  • Experience in grass maintenance, using a front deck mover and tractor
  • Knowledge of herbicide application and vegetation management practices.
  • Strong commitment to safety, teamwork and quality outcomes.
  • Ability to work outdoors, autonomously and respond to changing operational priorities.

We're looking for an experienced Leading Hand Grass to join our Waterways and Land team based at the Melbourne Water Bangholme work centre. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating heavy machinery, leading field-based activities and taking pride in maintaining essential environmental and community assets, we'd love to hear from you.

We offer:

  • Meaningful work that benefits the community and environment
  • Career development and training opportunities
  • A supportive and inclusive culture
  • Strong focus on safety and wellbeing
  • Diverse and rewarding field-based work
