Aurizon has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Officer Telecommunications Level II to join the Network division based in Brisbane / Rockhampton.
About the role:
The Telecommunications team powers the Architecture and Design of Aurizon’s cutting-edge Operational Telecoms network, a critical backbone stretching across Central Queensland. This network keeps vital and safety‑critical services running smoothly and supports the heartbeat of train operations.
As part of this high-performing team and reporting to the Engineering Leader Telecommunications, you will lead the design and deployment of advanced telecommunications systems that deliver on both Customer and internal needs. Working with Aurizon Control Systems Engineers this role will see you:
- Define requirements to meet business and customer needs
- Design, Draft and Review site and supporting infrastructure documentation meet requirements
- Develop migration and commissioning methodologies and strategies that yield minimal system disruptions.
- Liaise and coordinate works with (internal and external) Construction teams
- Validate on-site works to maintain accordance with relevant Australian and internal standards and specifications.
- Develop and maintain standards and specifications to and improve management of the Aurizon asset.
- Document changes for future works and maintenance staff.
About you:
We are seeking someone who is self-motivated to deliver quality work in the design space. You will be analytically minded with the ability to work autonomously when required. The office-based role will require you to visit site as-needed for walkouts to review proposed works and but also to oversee and validate commissioning activities and completed installations. You will have knowledge and the ability to read and understand electrical drawings, cable line diagrams, engineering schematics, standards and specifications. You will be experienced and have extensive knowledge of telecommunication or signalling systems used in a Rail or Utility Operational environment including:
- L2/L3 Data Networks
- Optical Fibre and Microwave Radio transmission bearers
- Radio Frequency (RF) technology solutions
- SDH and PDH communication systems
- DC Power Systems
- Antenna Support Structures and supporting asset protection systems
You will also have:
- Approved tertiary or industry-based qualification in an Engineering or closely related discipline (mandatory).
- Experience in design, deployment, and support of operational telecoms networks (Preferred).
- 5+ years' relevant technical industry experience and/or relevant Trade background
- A current Australian Open Drivers License
- High level of skill in communication both oral and written to effectively liaise with other engineering disciplines, external providers, suppliers, regulatory authorities, users and trade staff in deployment and the introduction of new and existing technologies and techniques.
- Experience in planning, estimating and in exercising initiative in the application of professional practices to take responsibility for project scheduling and time management
