Ranked one of the worlds “Most Liveable Cities” Adelaide is a culinary playground with a delicious mix of fine dining restaurants, award-winning cafes, bustling food markets and booming boutique bars. South Australia is home to 18 wine regions and has officially been named a Great Wine Capital of the World. With a world class festival and events calendar that spans the whole year. Think festivals dedicated to Australia's most watched game, or all things culinary excellence; Australia's biggest cycling race, international sporting debuts or the world's second largest arts festival. There's a reason why South Australia is known as the festival state.

About the Role:

The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is South Australia's largest accredited teaching hospital. It is the major trauma centre for South Australia, treating over 1700 trauma patients per year with 25% of these being classed as having serious injury. It has a catchment area for trauma that includes all of South Australia, plus adjacent sections of the neighbouring states. With opportunities for eligible trainees to rotate through the Trauma service and job opportunities with the Toxicology service.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), 20 minutes west of the CBD, is a 307 bed acute care teaching hospital, with the ED seeing approximately 125 patients a day, along with a varied case-mix including paediatrics and gynaecology. A new upgrade is in progress to include a new ED, in addition new operating theatres, day surgery suite, outpatient clinics, medical imaging services and intensive care unit.

Medical officers are well supported by consultant medical staff at both sites, with a consultant presence for at least 16 hours/day, with consultants on call and easily and willingly available during the night. Medical officers at CALHN have the opportunity to complete an Emergency Medicine Certificate. This is a 6-month formal qualification with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, which is recognised overseas.
