About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing administrative and secretarial support for the Consultants in General and Acute Medicine and the staff of General Medicine by providing sound secretarial knowledge and skills, excellent knowledge of medical terminology and judgment enabling effective management of sensitive, urgent and / or emerging administrative related matters within the department.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Providing a confidential secretarial service to the department including keyboard, filing correspondence, Dictaphone typing, diary maintenance and general reception duties,
  • Providing accurate typing skills to complete tasks including patient case notes, test results, medical reports, grant applications, manuscripts and general correspondence in a timely manner,
  • Answering incoming telephone calls and facsimiles, evaluating them for urgency and redirecting to appropriate staff member if available,
  • Undertaking a personal/professional development review on an annual basis,
  • Assisting with the administrative coordination of professional meetings and other relevant activities by organising meetings, booking venues, audio-visual equipment and arranging catering

About you:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision,
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative, judgment and common sense in performing duties,
  • Ability to prioritise work appropriately under limited supervision,
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and versatile and receptive to change,
  • Proven experience in providing a general comprehensive and confidential clerical, typing and receptionist support service,
  • Experience in working within multi-disciplinary teams within a health care environment
