About the Role

Join SA Health's Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Part-time Consultant in Child Protection Services at Lyell McEwin Health Service. This ongoing position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families across Adelaide's northern metropolitan region.

Working within our specialised Child Protection Services team, you will provide expert clinical consultation and assessment services for children who may have experienced abuse or neglect. This role combines clinical excellence with compassionate care, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our youngest patients. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments of children referred through child protection pathways
  • Provide expert clinical opinions and documentation for legal proceedings
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, police, and legal professionals
  • Deliver trauma-informed care to children and their families
  • Participate in case conferences and court proceedings as required

The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

About You

You are an experienced Paediatrician and have:

  • Medical degree with specialist qualifications in paediatrics or relevant field
  • Experience in child protection medicine or forensic paediatrics preferred
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with children, families, and legal professionals
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed care and maintain professional boundaries
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice

To be eligible for appointment to this role, you must hold:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
  • Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.

A higher degree (MD, PhD) and experience in research or publications will be highly regarded.

Lyell McEwin Hospital The major hospital in the north and north-east for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics and outpatient services.
