About the role

As a Technical Officer within Anatomical Pathology, you will play an integral role in supporting high-quality diagnostic services that underpin patient care. Working across the Main Laboratory, Cut-Up Laboratory and Immunocytochemistry Laboratory on a rotational basis, you will assist with the preparation and processing of histological specimens, including embedding, sectioning, special staining and Fluorescence in situ Hybridisation (FISH). Your contribution will support the efficient operation of Surgical Pathology services through accurate, timely and technically sound laboratory practices.

In this hands-on role, you will assist with more complex testing procedures, routine and frozen sections, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining, specimen photography and equipment operation and maintenance. You will also contribute to laboratory quality and accreditation requirements by supporting quality control programs, maintaining records, managing stock and workload data, and participating in risk management and continuous improvement activities. About You

To succeed in this role, you will meet the essential minimum requirements and bring a strong technical foundation, attention to detail and a collaborative approach to Anatomical Pathology services.

  • Relevant qualifications including a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a technical discipline (TGO-1), eligibility for technical study (TGO-0), or an AQF Level 7 degree in pathology or equivalent recognised by NPAAC/AIMS.

  • Proven technical capability in histopathology, particularly tissue processing and sectioning, supported by strong manual dexterity and the ability to meet deadlines in a high-throughput environment.

  • Sound knowledge and experience across histological techniques, including immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridisation, immunofluorescence and histotechnology, with an understanding of ISO and NATA accreditation requirements.

  • Well-developed communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, use initiative, solve problems effectively and confidently operate computer systems and laboratory equipment.
