Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some nights, evenings, & weekends

Job Summary: The Transit Dispatcher receives and processes requests from a variety of sources, including multiple telephone lines and radio frequencies for transportation. Dispatches appropriate personnel in an efficient and timely manner. Ensures that routes are optimized for time and cost-effectiveness, minimizing delays and maximizing the use of resources. Maintains constant communication between drivers, customers, and management. Devises alternative plans in the event of unforeseen circumstances (traffic accidents, vehicle breakdowns, etc.) to ensure continuity of operations. Monitors driving conditions and vehicle status, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Additional Department Summary: Must be able to work shifts with varying schedules to include holidays and be on standby during emergency threatening situations, such as severe weather, natural disasters, etc.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience; OR associate’s degree or higher.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to interact effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Good listening, comprehension, and communication skills. Ability to work autonomously. Ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions. Proficient in using personal computers and standard application software (word processing, spreadsheet, and-or database management programs). Strong organizational skills. Ability to learn and use various department-specific phones, computers, and other online systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a customer-service-focused environment. Transit and/or transportation experience. Familarity with Dispatching Programs such as Passio, TripShot, Transloc.
