The Employee Engagement Specialist serves as a communications expert for Human Resources, supporting the planning and execution of learning, wellness, and community engagement initiatives for Pepperdine University’s staff and faculty. The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm for strengthening employee wellbeing, creating development resources, and executing high-quality events. Reflecting the University's mission and values in all interactions, this position is critical to attracting and retaining the best workforce for Pepperdine University.

Duties

  • Coordinate wellness programming aligned with Pepperdine's holistic wellness program including communication campaigns and events related to each dimension of wellness: physical, financial, psychological, spiritual, professional, and social. Stay current on emerging trends in employee wellness and synthesize that knowledge to be shared with staff and faculty.
  • Write and edit content for communications sent on behalf of Human Resources, including email newsletters, supervisor communications, community emails, wellness messaging campaigns, quick reference guides, and ad-hoc announcements about various programming, employee benefits, and events. Maintain regular touchpoints with University partners such as department heads, executive assistants, University Events, Printing Services, Integrated Marketing Communications, Dining Services, and more.
  • Contribute to and implement the vision of departmental leadership to create meaningful, hospitable, and professional engagement opportunities. Take ownership of every aspect of each engagement initiative, including but not limited to researching and implementing trends and best practices; coordinating vendors, catering, and communication in preparation for workshops and events hosted on a weekly basis.
  • Support Human Resources' major annual events at Pepperdine including Pepperdine Honors, Leadership Conference, Holiday Receptions, and more. Take ownership of every aspect of each event, including pre-event logistics, venue preparation, on-site problem solving, post-event review and documentation, etc.
  • Act as a University ambassador to new employees. Plan streamlined, educational, and welcoming onboarding processes and aid in the facilitation of monthly new employee orientations.
  • Coordinate and manage aspects of employee reward and recognition, including vendor partners, dedicated recognition days, and informal recognition opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree and one year of full-time professional work experience (which may include experiences in wellness programming, customer service, hospitality, or event planning). Commitment to excellence, service, and hospitality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through, organization, and time management skills; Ability to prioritize work and oversee multiple, concurrent projects; Ability to anticipate needs, timeframes for reviews and approvals, and foresee challenges; Exceptional project management skills; Ability to appropriately interact with high-level administrators and distinguished guests; Ability to work harmoniously, professionally, and effectively with co-workers and supervisors; Must dress professionally; Ability to integrate the University’s Christian mission with HR practice; Proficiency in Google Workspace and creative design applications (Adobe, Canva, etc.).

Preferred: Two or more years of full-time professional work experience. Experience in communications, human resources, marketing, higher education, learning and development, wellness, or related fields. Experience with website design, email analytics, program evaluation, and advanced graphic design skills.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $24.23 - $26.92 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
