The Kenyon College Bookstore seeks energetic and outgoing Customer Service and Sales Associates.  This position alerts the Sales Floor Manager on duty of any customer concerns and presents opportunities for improving sales and services.  Reporting to the Sales Floor Manager, the Customer Service and Sales Associate is a part-time position without benefits. The rate of pay is $12.36 per hour, with a $1.25 per hour premium added to shifts on the weekend and after 6pm weekdays.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:  Offers friendly greetings to customers; seeks a positive outcome for every customer interaction; assists customers in researching, identifying and locating requested items; handles customer transactions with cash, credit cards, campus debit cards, gift cards and departmental charges.  Responsible for drawer counts at the beginning and end of the shift; scoops ice cream for customers and restocks food service area as well as supplies at service counters.  Prepares coffee service area, food prep counters and ice cream cooler; forwards customer requests for new items to the appropriate buyer.  Serves as campus information resource, answering questions about the College and the surrounding area.  Offers directions, recommendations and weather updates.  Learns about the new merchandise and annual physical inventory.  Alerts the Sales Floor Manager of discrepancies or other mistakes in inventory.  Assists trainees and new hires when the Sales Floor Manager or employee assigned as lead trainer is not available.  Performs duties on daily checklists (opening and closing duties and items needing attention during open hours.)  Reviews staff journals at the beginning of each shift and reviews pages upon return to work after time-off.  Uses good judgement to identify difficult customer situations and contacts the Sales Floor Manager or Manager on Duty for support in handling.  Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.  Handles additional tasks as requested by the Sales Floor Manager or General Manager. 

Work hours will vary depending on client requests and the volume of events on campus at any given time.  Flexibility as well as the ability to see projects through to completion are vital assets. Most shifts will be late nights until 11:15 pm. This is a part-time position with hours scheduled for days, evenings, late evenings, and weekends.  Open availability is preferred.
