Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Social Media and Engagement Specialist. The Social Media and Engagement Specialist creates and curates content that expresses the character of Kenyon College on its digital channels, with the goal of building community and inspiring meaningful engagement. With a talent for perfectly pitched messages and a deep understanding of social media, this creative and self-motivated individual is Kenyon’s voice — and ear — in the digital landscape.
The Social Media and Engagement Specialist joins Kenyon’s efforts to speak to prospective students and parents and those who influence them, including current students, parents and alumni. In this capacity, the Social Media and Engagement Specialist produces and manages content for Kenyon’s primary social media accounts. This individual also tracks analytics on these platforms, informing content strategy and contributing to a broader set of marketing insights for the College.
With the goal of presenting a cohesive and authentic digital brand, the person in this role works in close collaboration with the Visual Content Producer and Graphic Designer, supervises a team of student creative producers, and connects with and advises social media account managers across campus.
Reporting to the Director of Creative and Brand Strategy, the Social Media and Engagement Specialist plays a key role in the expression of Kenyon’s brand by contributing to communications staff meetings, pitching and executing on ideas, and advising on creative projects and campaigns.
Primary Responsibilities
- Produce and manage content for Kenyon’s primary social media accounts, with an emphasis on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
- Manage a social media calendar, collaborating with colleagues to ensure a timely flow of communications that meet institutional goals.
- Track analytics on social media channels, informing content strategy and contributing to a broader set of marketing insights.
- Stay informed of social media trends, emerging platforms and algorithm updates to ensure Kenyon’s content remains relevant and engaging.
- Work in close collaboration with the Visual Content Producer on the creation of video and photo content, and with the Graphic Designer on the visual presentation of content.
- Supervise the work of student creative producers, including photographers, writers and social media producers, assigning projects and providing direction and feedback on their work.
- Connect with managers of secondary social media channels across campus and advise them on best practices.
- As assigned, write and edit content for other digital channels.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English or a related subject.
- Two to four years of writing and editing experience in a higher-education, agency, corporate or non-profit digital setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Familiarity with AP Style, excellent spelling and grammar skills, attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to use social media channels and web and email content management systems.
- Ability to work independently, while meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects.
- A desire to constantly learn and innovate, and evidence of creative problem solving and collaboration.
- Some work during evenings and weekends required.
- Hybrid work is a possibility for this position.
