The Persistent Pain Service at the Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral pain service in Tasmania and is accredited for PDS stage of Faculty of Pain Medicine Training.

The Persistent Pain Service is a multidisciplinary service consisting of Specialist Pain Medicine Physicians with primary specialties including Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, Anaesthesia and General Practice along with psychiatrist, pain nurses, allied health including physiotherapy and psychology, and administration staff.

Trainees have the option to pursue training in interventional procedures or pelvic pain.

Applicants are advised that in accordance with Tasmanian Public Health Directions, all employees of the Department of Health must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.


$97,946 - $138,593 per annum

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full time & part time day work, 80 hours per fortnight commencing 6 February 2023 – 5 February 2024 (Please note 24 months negotiable)

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Staffing Unit.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1.  Conviction checks in the following areas:
a)  Crimes of Violence
b)  Sex Related Offences
c)  Serious Drug Offences
d)  Crimes involving dishonesty

2.  Identification check
3.  Disciplinary action in previous employment check
