Job description:

The Nurse Unit Manager: • Provides leadership to the Department of Emergency Medicine, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH). • Ensures the efficient and effective provision of care, based on clinical standards and best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework by coordinating the clinical, management, education and nursing research functions within the Department of Emergency Medicine; and • Leads and manages the coordination of overall patient care and is responsible for managing the allocated human, material and financial resources for service delivery within the Department of Emergency Medicine.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and mentor nursing staff across all emergency department shifts
  • Oversee clinical operations and ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes
  • Manage staffing schedules and resource allocation
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice
  • Support staff development through coaching and professional growth opportunities

What We're Looking For:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Substantial experience in emergency or acute care nursing
  • Proven leadership experience in clinical settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 21 February 2026. *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
