The Role:

As a Patient Support Officer (PSO) in the Emergency Department, you will play a vital role in supporting the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and the multidisciplinary team to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

The Emergency Department Patient Support Officer will:

  • Assist in maintaining a secure working environment by managing patient/visitor behaviour to, where possible, prevent aggressive incidents from occurring
  • Respond to incidents under the direction of the clinical team
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure a safe and orderly environment within the ED
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure patient comfort and dignity
  • Provide manual handling assistance with patient care requirements when and as directed
  • Work to the Statement of Duties of the Emergency Department Support Officer and local guidelines, procedures and protocols.

You will need:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to providing respectful and compassionate support to patients and staff.
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and in accordance with training and guidelines.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar casual vacancies.

Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2022
