Postdoctoral Research Associate - Plastics Engineering 507420 Plastics Engineering
We are seeking a candidate for a Postdoctoral appointment working in the area of functional textile with appreciation for i) knitting and weaving various structures, ii) optical and mechanical characterization of woven/knit textiles, iii) functionality via moisture wicking and temperature responsiveness. Experience or familiarity with textile construction is a must. In addition, we also look for a candidate with a strong background on fibers and textile; the focus is geared toward textile and composite characterization rather than fiber spinning. The candidate should have expertise in design of experiments, solid mechanics, fabric construction, and materials characterization. The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of polymer structure- process- property relationships. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the role fibers play in fabric formation and quality. Experience leading student groups in addition to presenting research to academic and industrial audiences are critical. Other tasks will include documentation of research findings, meeting with other research staff, supervising graduate students, collaboration on and presentation of scientific papers, grant and proposal writing, and industrial outreach. This position is contingent upon funding. This position is available for 12 months, with a possibility for a 6 to 12 month renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.
