Overview:
Robert Morris University department of athletics offers a one-year internship position for an undergraduate interested in working in collegiate athletic administration. Our office will provide on-the-job training and applicants should possess an interest in pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics. RMU Athletics seeks to hire an Intern to assist the department of athletics in supporting the day-to-day administration and guidance of RMU’s 16 sports programs. Position provides exposure to a variety of areas within the department of athletics including: strategic planning; budget management; alumni engagement; fundraising; contest management; student-athlete welfare issues and initiatives; diversity and inclusion initiatives; and staff oversight/management. Successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Athletics and Senior Associate Athletic Director in the areas of event management, community and campus relations and alumni engagement. In addition, those serving in an external affairs role with RMU Athletics will receive a comprehensive overview of athletic management including strategic planning, annual reporting, budgeting and leadership. Successful candidate must be organized, detailed oriented and committed to RMU Athletics team.
Responsibilities:
• Provide support to the day-to-day coordination of operational activities in the Athletic Director's Office including: preparing HR forms, tracking sick and vacation time for all full-time coaches and employees, compiling a monthly calendar and the department personnel directory, and assisting with administrative assignments for the Vice President and Director of Athletics; Deputy Athletics Director, Chief of Staff; & Athletics Administrative Services Coordinator • Provide support for game day operations as needed, including contributing to the planning, promotion and organization of departmental special events (annual golf fundraising tournament, hall of fame dinner, special game day promotions and the spring sports recognition banquet) as well as any post season championships or competition • Assist the department of athletics with alumni engagement, networking, and special events, including, but not limited to, Athletic Hall of Fame, letterwinner activities, tailgates, and homecoming festivities • Assist in arranging expense reports and travel for the Director of Athletics • Assist Deputy Athletic Director in annual planning process and outcomes assessments at all levels • Handle fine-tuned details of all events including relations with third-party vendors, game day operations student staff and venues plus guest invitations and RSVP’s • Help facilitate department internship program as ally with and mentor to team members • Provide proof reading of written materials and editorial commentary for all communication outreach, especially to those in the 20 to 30 year old age range • Identify areas for growth and enhanced engagement • Field and respond to all requests for mascot appearances and coordinate with performers • Attendance on game days and at key events, in addition to office hours as necessary • Other assignments designated by Director of Athletics and Senior Associate Athletic Director
Minimum Qualifications:
Required: Proficiency with personal computer applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); outstanding communication skills; ability to follow direction and to manage multiple projects simultaneously; detail-oriented; flexibility to intersperse simple tasks with important administrative responsibilities; confidentiality Preferred: Interest in athletic administration
