The Web Developer for Library Applications leads user interface development for library web applications and resources.  Will be responsible for improving user experience by creating interfaces that connect users to library collections and services, ensuring that Lehigh Library’s systems and content conform to standards of accessibility, usability and modern visual design. In addition to developing application and web interfaces, this position also performs user research to inform the design, development and integration of library tools and systems. The Lehigh community takes seriously our commitment to antiracism and The Principles of our Equitable Community.

1. Lead application front-end development (50%)
*Performs front-end programming to support the digital presentation of Library collections and services
*Creates modern, elegant and information-rich interfaces that present content in a clear and accessible way
*Develops new functionality and theme enhancements for Library digital repository system
*Stays current with developing standards related to front-end programming

2. Enhance library user experience (20%)
*Assesses and defines user needs and system capabilities for library applications and improves user engagement with library systems
*Creates a holistic user experience for the discovery of information resources and formats across multiple library applications
*Collaborates with Library and Technology Services teams to promote user needs and accessible, inclusive design for a wide range of patron and user types

3. Improve search, discovery and metrics (20%)
*Designs and implements search and discovery strategies that improve information retrieval tasks
*Designs and implements strategies for search engine optimization
*Integrates analytics systems with library applications to enable gathering and analysis of content use metrics

4. Participate in library technology initiatives (10%)
*Provide expertise and software development support for new library initiatives to improve resource management workflows and user services
*Serve on library, Library and Technology Services and consortia committees
*Keep current with trends in web and digital library technologies

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Library, Information, Computer Science or similar field; Master's degree preferred

Three to five years related work experience

Experience with content management systems such as Drupal, including custom modules and theme development.

Experience developing solutions that make use of the Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP application stack.

Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks such as ReactJS, Vue.js, etc.

Experience building responsive websites that make use of HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Experience working Library digital repository systems such as Islandora

Knowledge of web standards, including best practices for accessibility and usability

Knowledge of information architecture, user-centered design and user engagement

Knowledge of rapid prototyping tools.=

Knowledge of Library environments, or specific interest in Library information systems

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
