Exciting Opportunity: Laboratory Safety Specialist at Lehigh University
Are you a passionate advocate for safety with a keen eye for hazard identification and mitigation? Lehigh University is seeking a dynamic Laboratory Safety Specialist (Position Number S88200) to join our team in the Health and Safety department under the Campus Safety Division.
In this crucial role, you will work closely with the EH&S Director to support building and laboratory managers, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for our teaching and research facilities. Your expertise in laws, regulations, and best practices will be instrumental in resolving issues related to laboratory safety, with a particular focus on hazard control hierarchy for chemical, physical, biological, radiological, ergonomic, and other hazardous factors.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review, evaluate, and analyze laboratory environments for potential hazards
• Design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury
• Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Laboratory Safety program
• Conduct inspections and incident investigations
• Identify and protect against general issues such as electrical, physical, and fire hazards
• Exercise the authority to Stop Work when conditions present an imminent danger
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, other science related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three to five years of related work experience
• Four years of relevant experience: creating and delivering laboratory safety (e.g. chemical hygiene, biosafety), laboratory risk management, chemical/waste shipping, and regulatory compliance training programs for various audiences, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Proven technical knowledge in laboratory safety and hazard mitigation
• Ability to plan and work independently, with strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent conflict resolution and public speaking abilities
• Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices

This position is a Grade: 9 - 40, offering an approximate salary of $54,390-$66,190. The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor. This position is responsible for driving University-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required.
