Job Summary

The Basic Needs Services Financial Wellness student assistants assist staff in providing peer-to-peer financial literacy mentoring to fellow Titans, equipping them with the tools and resources to make informed financial decisions. Staff will train and supervise student assistants with the following: 

  • Provide one-on-one peer mentoring on basic financial wellness topics
  • Assist professional Basic Needs Services staff with financial literacy programming
  • Represent the Basic Needs Services Financial Literacy program at tabling events
  • Answer incoming communications requesting mentoring sessions and presentations
  • Assist with the development of educational and promotional marketing materials, including:
    • Assist with creating and designing publications, flyers, and digital materials
  • Support Basic Needs Center operations as needed
  • Support the Basic Needs Services social media accounts with other student assistants and Basic Needs Services professional staff, which includes creating University-appropriate social media content, including graphics, images, and captions to be posted, and maintaining a robust presence on social media:
    • Assist with creating content
    • Assist with reviewing analytics
    • Assist with developing strategies to increase followership and engagement
    • Assist with maintaining a regular posting schedule
    • Assist with monitoring comments and direct messages to respond in a timely manner as appropriate or refer to the appropriate staff member
    • Assist with cross-promoting events hosted by other CSUF departments
  • Create a welcoming environment for visitors
  • Work independently and communicate any issues or concerns that arise to the supervisor
  • Participate in mandatory trainings at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters
  • Assist in staffing Basic Needs Services information tables at resource fairs, Basic Needs Services Financial Wellness Student Assistant
  • Assist with campus-wide programming efforts related to Basic Needs, including those required by the CSU Office of the Chancellor
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times; student workers sign a statement regarding confidentiality and complete a Data Security and Privacy training
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Stay connected with events, news, and noteworthy happenings on and around campus
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

    • Current CSUF student enrolled in classes for Fall 2024 and in good academic standing (must have a minimum 2.0 GPA)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to exercise reasonable judgement
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work with confidential information
    • Ability to work well as a part of a team

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
  • Undergraduate student applicants only 
  • Available to work 10-12 hours per week, between 8am-5pm Monday through Friday  
  • Required to complete and attend all scheduled trainings during the summer Training will be mostly virtual, with 2 required days of in-person training prior to the start of the Fall 2026 
    • Training time is paid

License/Certifications

 A valid California Driver's license.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
